Olivier Balez
What’s interesting to me is how he decided to use orange. The color isn’t usually associated with romance, but it works perfectly in this piece. I’d chalk it up to appropriateness of feeling and the things it calls to mind, even if on a partially conscious scale at best.
It reminds me of hunger. There is a warmth here, a fire even, but it is not red — not animalistic or ravenous, but still strong. It is urgent, but not violently and desperately so.
It’s that color behind closed eyes when you stand in bright sunlight. There you are standing in front of a great source, a strong shining energy, and even when your eyes are closed, the darkness is no longer there.
It is a warmth and a brightness. It is alive and of the now, calling.
Or maybe Olivier Balez really just likes orange.
